DOCUMENTARY FILM

Our journey began in Donaghadee, on Northern Ireland’s coast, where Mexican swimmer Ezequiel Becerril faced the notorious North Channel — over 11 hours of icy, jellyfish-laden waters under the guidance of Nora Toledano.
More than a feat of endurance, the crossing uncovered fears, memories, and the quiet resolve that every swim awakens. It set the tone for Riptide: an exploration of bodies against the sea, a lineage of swimmers, and a coach whose own story — marked by triumphs, loss, and resilience — forms the film’s heart.
CONTRACORRIENTE
(RIPTIDE)
COMPLETED AUGUST 2024
Our journey continued on the shores of Dover, where Nora Toledano set out for her 14th crossing of the English Channel — a body of water that has defined both her triumphs and her losses.
This was not just another swim. Each stroke carried the weight of memory: the echoes of her past crossings, the friends and athletes she has mentored, and the quiet presence of her son Max watching from the boat.
In Dover, Riptide revealed itself as more than a chronicle of endurance. It became a meditation on legacy — on what it means to return, again and again, to the same waters, and how the act of swimming transforms when it becomes intertwined with identity, family, and the desire to leave a mark beyond the shore
